SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol employed to connect to a web server and execute different tasks via a command line. The protocol is popular with many experienced users, due to the fact that the info transmitted over it is encrypted, so it cannot be intercepted on the way by a third party. SSH access can be used for a lot of things based on the type of website hosting account. With a shared hosting account, in particular, SSH is one of several ways to import/export a database or to upload a file if the website hosting server allows for it. In case you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH can be used for just about everything - you could install software or restart specific services including the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is employed mostly with UNIX-like Systems, but there are clients which allow you to employ the protocol if your computer system is working with a different Operating System too. The connection is established on TCP port 22 by default and the remote server always listens for incoming connections on that port though a number of service providers change it for security reasons.
SSH Telnet in Cloud Hosting
SSH access may be allowed with a click through the Hepsia Control Panel if the Linux cloud hosting package which you have chosen includes this function by default. If not, you could add it through the Add Services/Upgrades section of your CP and enable it right away. You'll find all the information you need inside the SSH section of the CP - the host, the port number and the username that you must use, as well as detailed Help articles where we have listed all the commands which you can use inside the account and examples of the syntax that you have to use. The SSH password could be modified from the very same section anytime with several clicks. Provided that SSH access is enabled, you will also be able to connect safely and securely via an FTP client too. With an SFTP connection, all the files which you upload will go through an encrypted connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting
SSH access is included by default with some of our semi-dedicated server solutions, while with others you could include it via the hosting CP if needed - even just for the current month. Either way, you could activate and de-activate the function with a single click through the SSH section of the CP. In the same spot, you'll find the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You will also find a box where you can input the password that you'd like to use, because it does not need to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better security, you could also change it as much as you need. A complete list of the commands that can be executed within a semi-dedicated account is provided in our Knowledge Base, along with the syntax and several examples. An extra function after SSH access is activated shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client which supports this sort of connections.
SSH Telnet in VPS
If you buy a new virtual private server from our company, it will come with full root access and you'll be able to connect to the server and to handle everything through an SSH console. The feature is provided by default with all packages, so you won't need to enable or upgrade anything. Your hosting server shall be set up right after you order it and the instant you receive the Welcome email with the login details, you may connect via the server’s primary IP address and start working. As the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is isolated from the other accounts inside the physical machine, there will be no restrictions with regards to the commands you can use. You will have full root access, so that you may set up and run any app which can work on a Linux server, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot the whole machine or any software running on it.
