If a page on your website doesn't load, an error message will be displayed to the website visitor. Since there are different errors, there are different pages that will display, but what is common for all of them is that they're generic and almost certainly will have practically nothing that is similar to the layout of your site, which can be frustrating for any site visitor. This is the reason why hosting providers have introduced a feature referred to as Custom Error Pages. For a variety of different errors, visitors shall see your custom content, which could be informative or amusing, depending on your preference, and that will match the overall design of your website, so the pages shall not look like they are not part of your Internet site at all. You can use this option for numerous errors - 400 (Bad request), 401 (Unauthorized), 403 (Forbidden) and 404 (File not Found).
Custom Error Pages in Cloud Hosting
You can set up custom made error pages for any of your domains or subdomains. The feature is supported by all cloud hosting plans which we provide, so once you log in to the Hepsia CP and navigate to the Hosted Domains section, you can easily click on the Edit button for a domain/subdomain and in the pop-up that will appear, you may choose the sort of error page that should appear - a default one from our system, a standard Apache web server page or a personalized one. For the last mentioned option, you have to specify the URL to the page, so if you use custom made pages, you must upload the files inside your web hosting account first. Another way is to use an .htaccess file positioned inside the domain or subdomain folder with a line for each and every error type. The correct syntax can be found in our Knowledge Base, so you can use this feature even if you don't have any previous experience.
Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting
If you host your web sites in a semi-dedicated server account with us, you'll be able to set custom made error pages for any of them easily using our in-house made Hepsia hosting CP. With a few clicks in the Hosted Domains section, you'll be able to modify the default setting from a system page to a custom made one for any of the 4 error types. All you have to do is supply a link to each file that you've uploaded before that and then save the change. If required, you'll be able to revert this modification whenever you want and in exactly the same way. If you would like, you may use an .htaccess file as well. It must be created/uploaded inside the domain or subdomain folder associated with the site whose error pages you would like to change and the content for this kind of file can be found in our Help article for this matter.
